January is always a long month especially when you’re waiting for payday after splashing out over Christmas. It is usually particularly quiet for all those in the catering trade but this year it has been slightly different. Because of the adverse weather conditions throughout December, we had a fair few cancelations; Lucky for us though they all rebook for January so things have been really busy. Our last Christmas party was yesterday! They celebrated in style with a huge party and two different hog roast machines spit roasting turkeys and huge joints of beef. The beef was so tender that it melted in the mouth.With February approaching and the weather set to be as cold as it was before Christmas we are having to do more and more of the cooking in doors. This is fine if there is enough room but it can cause a problem if conditions are cramped! Barn’s and some hotels have ample room but it does get quite difficult with private homes and smaller public houses etc. We’ve noticed the NHS in the news lately with proposals to overhaul the current system, but whilst the house of commons debates these changes, we have had a booking from Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. One of the wards is having a training day and what better way to feed the brain than a hearty hog roast with all the trimmings? It’s easily served and can be eaten standing or sitting – no standing on ceremony required. Our Doctors and nurses do a great job and we are really happy to be doing our bit – helping to feed them whilst they train. Another topic which is still hot on everyone’s lips is the vat increase. There is many a business that is struggling to make sales with the dreaded 2.5% increase on last year. We, on the other hand, have managed to increase bookings on last year.  We have tried to keep prices as low as possible and the end product as innovative and tasty as before.  We have new ideas coming out of our ears. Our Piri Piri Chicken Rotisserie is particularly popular and the turkey spit roast is still going strong regardless of the fact that next Christmas is almost a year away.  Weddings are on the up too.  The VAT increase certainly didn’t put off all those couples that got engaged during the festive period. We are sending out responses to enquiries like they are going out of fashion. 2011 started with a bang and as far as we can predict sales will be up on last year. We will continue to supply the best Hog Roasts in the South West and our clients will continue to benefit from our fantastic menus and great customer service! We pride ourselves in being the best hog roasters in for miles around!
